Oak Island

This evening Jason will be heading to Oak Island, Texas to help with the recovery from Hurricane Ike. Folks in this small fishing community lost pretty much everything in the storm. FEMA can not deliver trailers until lots are cleared so families are still living in tents. Men from our church have been going to Oak Island weekly to help with this process and to also deliver needed goods. This community found itself coming together after the storm. The population is made up of Vietnemese, Mexicans and whites. These "sub-groups" have always kept to themselves, but no longer. The other thing happening is that the small Baptist church in the community has become the funnel for all assistance flowing in and has given the church, as well as the volunteers, a huge opportunity to meet physical needs and then to be able to share the Gospel with these people.

Jason will be traveling after work with a friend from our Sunday school class and meeting a group who is already there. They will work Friday and Saturday and come home on Sunday. Please pray for the people in Oak Island and also for the safety of the men who are working there this week to help.
